What a great word "Thank You!" I mean, well done and I really appreciate it. Or you really are important enough to acknowledge and I want you to feel good about your contribution.
The amount of upsets that could have been avoided by just telling the other person thank you would probably be as much as the polulation of the world a hundred times over. With an appropriate and honest acknowledgement, the other person feels that they are worthy, that they belong and that their contribution was worth the effort.
This could probably be the easiet but most important tip that I could give any boss or manager. When an employee, junior or a co-worker does something right, acknowledge then for doing so and say thank you. It is so such not a big deal, but it is so powerful and appropriate. It is said that production is the basis of moral. Well the word "thank you" really recognises that production had taken place and it has been recognised AND that it is appreciated.
In fact, as per the definition of this word found in One Look Dictionary. Concise but accurate:
Thank you: ▸ noun: a conversational expression of gratitude
I think that it should be more completely defined as this:
Thank You! I can see that you produced something and I want to tell you that it is really appreciated.
What better way to really encourage production than any other overpropitiative manner.
Now, saying thank you is not just a brush off thing. It really has to be honest and come from the heart. In fact, you may have to practice a few times and for some practice a lot to really be good at this skill and to ensure that it comes across in a genuine manner.
There is a drill that can be done which is called the "No" Drill. Just look in the mirror and tell yourself "no" until you are really sure that you are good at this. It really feels good to say "no" to someone with intention and honesty and still have a confident smile on your face.
In the same way you can do a "Thank You" Drill. Just look yourself in the mirror each day and say "thank you". Say it until you know without a doubt that you mean it. When you start to apply this in life you will be amazed at the response and respect that you will gain from those around you.
The water crystals sure seem to love it.
