Water Crystals from New Zealand
The longest river in Shikoku is te Shimanto River. This river flows from the tops of Mt Irazu, with a height of 1,336 metres above sea level all the way down to Tosa Bay where it enters the Pacific Ocean. These are about 300 smaller estuaries that flow into and becoe a part of the Shimanto River.
This river has never been dammed as it is only slightly tilted. In fact it is the only major river in Japan not to have been dammed. It still flow completely natural as it always has. With very little industry established in the surrounding areas of this river and the willingness of the Japanese people to keep the Shimanto River clean, the river still flows crystal clear all the way down to the Pacific Ocean.
With this care and admiration, the Shimanto River has earned the name of the Last Clean Stream in Japan. With clean and natural flowing water, it is no wonder that we are able to obtain the amazing array of
water crystals that we do from the waters of this river.
Throuh out the length of the Shimanto River, there are 94 species of fish that has been found. This makes the Shimanto the most abundant of all rivers in Japan. Local fisherman still use traditional methods of fishing using flaming torches to drive sweetfish into their fishing nets.
The people of the Shimanto River being very religious, perform ceremonies to cleans the body and the soul with the pure waters of the river. The relationship of the Shimanto River remains very intimate and closely tied up with the people of the river community.
If all remaining rivers of the world could be identified and protected as has this incredible natural waterway, we will remain one step closer to preserving this incredible water planet that we live on. A very well done the the Japanese people of the Shimanto River.
