Water Crystals from Metori Yusui
With Hokkaido being the second largest island and the least developed of Japan's four islands, you can imagine that there are some lovely clean sources of spring water on this island.
With lots of snow fall, Hokkaido's winters are very harsh. This island in the winter months gets below freezing temperatures and frozen seas. Being higher on the equater the hotter months are not as humid as the other islands of Japan. This is a great time of year to visit this less busy and still very traditional Japanese cultured area.
There are hectares of unspoilt natural area and many out door goers are attracted to this island. Snow Skiers and Snow Boarder love the winter months with skiers ad campers enjoying the warmer months around June and Septemper.
Actuall, mountains, hills and forests cover over two thirds of the area on Japan's islands. With Japan being much more well known for its bustly and over crowded cities in Tokyo and Osaka, there is actually an abundnace of nature on this land of great hitory.
The Japanes Flora is abundant with amazing flowers and colourful leaves through out the year.
Sakura (Cherry)
The cherry blossom is Japan's unofficial national flower and symbol.
Ume (Japanese Plum)
Blooming several weeks ahead of the cherry blossoms, plum blossoms are an early sign of spring.
Momiji (Japanese Maple)
The Japanese maple is king in the category of most spectacular autumn colors. It is widely used as decorative tree in gardens.
Matsu (Pine Tree)
Green throughout the year, the pine tree symbolizes youth and longevity and is used as decorative plant in most Japanese gardens. Pine trees are also very popular for bonsai.
Take (Bamboo)
Few plants are used in as many ways as bamboo. The quickly growing evergreen has been used in construction and various arts and crafts for many centuries. Not at last, bamboo shoots (takenoko) are a very popular spring delicacy.
And the Japanese fauna varies from brown bears in Hokkaido to tropical snakes in Okinawa. Japanese monkeys live throughout the country except in Hokkaido. Other famous Japanese animals include the crane, the Japanese deer, the fox (kitsune), and the raccoon dog (tanuki).
It is the pure spring and mountain water that are so full of life and are easily able to bring about these amazing water crystals. Each water crystal an amazement in itself.
