Chlorination Of Drinking Water.

Let's take a close look at chlorination of drinking water .

You may or may not know the damaging effects of Chlorine on your health so I am not going to insult your awareness. This is a simple hint that can help you to either reduce or eliminate the chlorine that is used to keep our drinking water clean.

So if chlorine is damaging to you health, why do we use it in our water supply. Good question.

Well, chlorine is used as a transporting agent. It's purpose is to ensure that the water arrives at our end of the tap without any contaminants. Chlorine detroys basically all life forms that it touches, so it is great to stop any germs and bacteria that may be in the water.

Ok! once the chlorine has served its purpose, how do we get rid of the chlorine. Maybe we would be better off with the germs and bacteria. The reported effects of chlorine on man's health are quite alarming. Well, the current authorities have decided that this is the preferred method of transportation, so this is what we have to work with.

Number 1. Before you drink the water from the tap, let it stand for 24 hours. Even an hour on a warm day can evaporate the majority of the chlorine from the water. You should be able to taste the difference straight away. I definitely can.

Unfortunately there are also more stubburn additives being used which are called Chloramines. This is basically Chlorine and Amonia combined which has far stronger durability and is designed not to evaporate off the water.

To remove these stronger chemicals it will be necessary to use a good quality water filtration unit. I also suggest to let any chlorine evaporate from the water before you place it into your water filter as above if you can do so. It will make life a little easier on the filtration system.

More scary, not just the chlorination of drinking water, you also need to look at your shower and bath area as it may be one of the most dangerous locations in your house.

"Taking long hot showers is a health risk, according to research presented last week in Anaheim, California, at a meeting of the American Chemical Society. Showers - and to a lesser extent baths - lead to a greater exposure to toxic chemicals contained in water supplies than does drinking the water. The chemicals evaporate out of the water and are inhaled. They can also spread through the house and be inhaled by others. House holders can receive 6 to 100 times more of the chemical by breathing the air around showers and bath than they would by drinking the water."

It is a simple start just to evaporate the chlorine off your water before you drink it. You will notice the differnce immediately and it is a great first step towards healthy water.
