Ceramic Water Filters.

ceramic water filters are an effective way of keeping bacteria and water bourne deseases out of your drinking water . Although they are not the most high tech form of water filtration, ceramic water filtration is an effective method of obtaining good quality drinking water.

The Ultimate Drinking Water

ceramic water filters were first developed in Europe as a result of Louis Pasteur's germ theory in 1860. With water bourne diseases such as typhoid, cholera and dysentery, they became a very popular commercial and household method of combating these types of diseases and infection. These filters then became popular all around the world because of this very same purpose.

Ceramic water filters are of course a porous ceramic filter. They do vary quite dramatically depending on their manufacture and the type of ceramic used. The main types have fine silica power within the ceramic which comes from microscopic algae. Then when fired, the filter unit is just a porous unit that allows water to travel through, but not other contaminents and diseases which are larger. You are then left with the clean water to drink free of these above contaminents and diseases.

The water seeps through the tens of millions of pores in the ceramic water filter which is normally a cartridge set into the bottom of a larger ceramic. porcellin or clay container. They make a very nice decorative feature, gravity fed with the tap at the bottom. Restaurants and other public service areas often have them available for their clientel to get complenentary water to drink.

There are also the use of antibacterial agents, like silver, that are used in these filter units. This is to prevent bacterial growth within the filter. They are manufactured so that the antibacterial agent isn't able to pass through the ceramic water filter. There are some controvercial tests done on these, so please read up on them and decide for yourself that you are getting a high quality manufactured filter and that this type of water filtration is adequate for the water that comes from your tap.

Ceramic water filters can be purchased from many online distributers and local water filter specialists. The care and replacement of the filter must be taken ito consideration when you purchase one of these items. Some also have a combination with a carbon filter to make them even more effective. You should try for yourself, but personally the ones that I have drank from provide lovely soft clean taisting water that is without a doubt far superior to any water that comes from the tap.

The fact that VOCs (Volatile organic chemicals.) like chlorine are not removed by ceramic filtration. With the hazards to your health of chlorine and other such VOCs, you really must look at the combination of carbon filtration with ceramic water filtration to get that added assurance that you and your family are being protected from and VOCs that may slip though such a system. Happy drinking and remember, water filtration of purification is only the first step in the process of obtaining healthy drinking water.
